Having lost all her goods and having spent several terrible weeks on the streets of Paris, Marie decides to escape to the countryside. Leaving Paris, means also to leave Nisa, her little girl who has been put in a childrens’ home. Since her husbands’ death, Marie has lived in grief and solitude, being unable to look after her child and incapable to go on as before…before, she has been a poet and has been writing.
Marie finds herself in a small isolated house and this is where she will live through the most terrible loss of all: the loss of speech. Words have left her, she can not express herself any more and falls into mutism. From that moment on, she knows what she has to do: get back her little daughter…

Isabelle Jarry is the author of L’homme de la passerelle (prix du Premier roman, Seuil, 1992), L’Archange perdu (Mercure de France, 1994), Le jardin Yamata (Stock, 1999), George Orwell, cent ans d’anticipation (Stock, 2003) and a non-fiction work about Theodore Monod.
