The folly called Château des Perrières, which stands near Montpellier, appears to be the site of a strange malediction. Its new owners, a wealthy Canadian business woman and a sulfurous TV-evangelist, gave a party to celebrate the end of the restoration work, and found one of their guest impaled on a halberd, one hand clutching a letter of the alphabet. Kévin Normand, a police lieutenant from the crime squad in Montpellier, is put in charge of the inquest. Interestingly, Kévin is also one of the bishop’s deacons. Beset by uncertainties and suspicions, Kévin finds himself doubting the judiciary system, his superiors, and even the Catholic hierarchy. In order to solve the puzzle, he has to go back in time, to the troubled era of the French revolution.
Yves Desmazes is a police officer who started his career in Paris and is now in post at the police head-quarters of the Hérault (South East region of France). Folies meurtrières is his second novel.
