L'effacement
Catherine Séher

They met when they were seventeen. They were tender and confident in their love. After twenty-seven years of common life, they are a unified couple, in spite of the hardships. When, on a clear and shiny night, he commits suicide, she feels abandoned and betrayed.

How can one understand and justify the brutality of this gesture? How can one assume daily life with two children when everything falls apart, when family members drift away and doors are shut? How can one answer without being clumsy to those willing to help?

L’effacement is a painfully alive text, moving and bitter, by times hard and severe. Passing on from you to he, Catherine Séher draws the portrait of a man who could not accept his failures in his professional life and his disappointments in a flaking society. From the complicity of their happy days to the final desertion, she takes up the thread of a story she now has to write alone, before the voice and the features of P*** fade away.

Catherine Séher was born in 1960 in Nancy. After having studied agriculture and horticulture, she takes up a double course in Literature and Film Studies. She first becomes a bookseller before moving on to book publishing. L’effacement is her first work.
