This is a man who has slowly gone up the professional ladder until he became the company’s finance Director. The book recounts this trajectory from the point of view of his daughter, watching him transform from the long-haired, cigarette smoking father wearing overalls into a suit and tie man with a brief-case. When he coughs however, this feared, respected and powerful director spits blood. A blood that is as red as the cheap wine he drinks to forget at night.
Monsieur le Directeur is the implacable portrait of a professional world that breaks and crushes men, as well as the portrait of a paradoxical character, a man who is so consistently different from others that it becomes funny.
Carine Beaufils is twenty-six years old. She loves literature and detests numbers and figures. Yet for some strange reason, she became a bank-manager. Then again, she is not asked to make calculations but to invest. When she is not busy with investments she is a comedian, performing at her work place but also, as an actress, on the theater stage. Monsieur le Directeur is her first novel: her first step towards literature and away from the world of numbers.
