Look for the victim, not for the assassin! This is the rather unusual challenge that Pierre Brassac, a young lieutenant recently graduated from the police school, has to face. Nothing happens according to the customary scenario: the assassin agrees to give himself up but only on the condition that he is told who it is he killed – a mysterious victim that nothing permits to identify… Pierre Brassac finds himself caught in an incredible machination, and discovers the hidden face of the oil business and its obscure multinational companies. Some are not happy with oil only and take advantage of their multiple locations abroad to traffic with strange and highly profitable substances.
The central character of Paul Loubière’s new novel is a beginner lieutenant who has to deal with a hierarchy that appears as Machiavellian as the criminals he pursues. Loubière gives a convincing and powerful description of the complexity of today’s oil business.
Paul Loubière has a PhD in philosophy and ethnography and works as a reporter for Challenges, a journal specializing in issues of energy and petrol. He teaches mathematics and logic at the university of Paris-8. Assassinat sous X is his third crime novel.
