In Etry Prison, on Spring day, the young inmates of Unit 221 openly rebel. At first it was just about demanding 2 hours to walk and refusing to go back in the cells. But events degenerate quickly and things turn ugly. Rooms devastated, policemen in hospital and enraged wardens. The mutiny is overcome by a special brigade and the youths sent to the adult disciplinary quarters. They find themselves in solitary confinement: A young, determined robber, not lacking idealism; a future Mafiosi able to kill with a pen; a frightened student who should not be there; a dangerous madman, who escaped the high security quarter. Facing them is an assistant director, somewhat overwhelmed and obsessed with a personal vengeance, a chief warden near his retirement and prison educators without any resources.
Where the law of the strongest is king, many try to save their skins, like everywhere else.
Le ciel sur la tête is a dark novel, taking us deep into the violent and crude world of prisons. Through a vivid description of the prison, he points out the failures of political power, the lack of resources for educators and the problem of youth in prison. Fierce and without concessions, it is a deeply human book.

Nan Aurousseau was born in 1951 and has spent all his childhood in the 20th arrondissement in Paris. In 2005 he published Bleu de chauffe, a first novel which was very much noticed and celebrated by the media, and in 2007 Du même auteur. Both novels were sold to Italy.
